Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Month

Dear fellow Rotarians,

Rotary theme for February is Peace Building and Conflict Prevention which is one of Rotary’s 6 areas of focus.  We are all aware that there are certain issues related to conflict resulting in unrest in several countries, actual military war and trade sanctions which impact the people’s daily lives, especially the poor.

Rotary promotes Peace and Conflict Resolution.  The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 80 for certificate studies at premier universities.  There are 2 certificate peace study programs a year at Chulalongkorn University’s Peace Center.  Rotary Club of Bangkok’s members are host counselors for 4 peace fellows who are currently studying here in Class 28.  They will be coming to be our guest speakers at our luncheon meetings.

In addition, our club is applying for a global grant project, Cultivating Sustainable Peace Culture in School.  We need to cultivate the peace culture where people treat one another with respect and kindness and are ready to help others.  School environment is suitable for conducting a program to cultivate proper social attitudes, values, and behavior.  We are seeking an international club to fund the project in order to complete the application.

Let us heal the world with peace.

Yours in Rotary,

Pornchai Wessatada
