History of the Rotary Club of Chiang Mai
In 1959, President of the Rotary Club of Bangkok, Luang Yuktasevi Viwat is the initiator and founder of the third Rotary Club in Thailand in Chiang Mai. He has traveled to Chiang Mai since 1958. He visited and discussed the idea with the Governor of Chiang Mai at that time, Pol. Lt. Nueng Rayanaka. The Governor invited a group of business people to discuss at the provincial governor. Later, the founding leaders invited businessmen and interested parties who agreed in Rotary’s ideology to attend a Rotary Club meeting at the Sri Lanna Women’s Association. With the Rotary Club of Bangkok as a sponsoring club and mentor club in February 1959 and with 40 founding members, the meeting established Rotary Club of Chiang Mai and elected the Governor of Chiang Mai, Pol. Lt. Nueng Rayanaka as Chartered President.
