More than twenty nationalities, professionals across every industry, weekly meetings since 1930. Here's what the Rotary Club of Bangkok actually looks like.

When sixty-nine people gathered at Phya Thai Palace in September 1930 to found the Rotary Club of Bangkok, they came from fifteen countries. Thai royalty alongside American trade commissioners. Japanese trading executives alongside British consuls. Dutch diplomats, Indian merchants, Swiss engineers — all in the same room, signing the same founding document.

Ninety-five years later, not much has changed in that regard.

More Than Twenty Nationalities

Our membership today spans more than twenty nationalities. Thai professionals alongside long-term expats from Europe, the Americas, and Asia. What we have in common isn't nationality; it's a commitment to service, a belief in doing business ethically, and an enjoyment of good company.

Meetings are in English, which in a club where no single nationality dominates, is simply the practical choice. That makes us immediately accessible to anyone from anywhere, including internationally-educated Thai professionals who want to engage with Bangkok's global business community.

What Our Members Do

Rotary's classification system means each member represents a distinct professional field, so our membership covers a broad range of Bangkok's professional life. A typical meeting will have doctors and healthcare executives, lawyers (Thai and international), manufacturing managers, engineers, bankers, university academics, NGO directors, restaurateurs, and senior corporate people from across multiple industries.

That mix matters for the services we provide. When our Vocational Committee organises a careers workshop for students, the volunteer speakers we curate are practising professionals, not hired presenters. When a Club member connects a community project with a technical expert, that expert is often sitting at the next table, one of us or a friend of a Rotarian.

More Than Thursday Lunch

Fellowship at the Club isn't just the weekly meeting. We organise vocational visits to factories, social enterprises, and partner organisations. We have an active social programme, including the annual fundraising gala. Our sister club network means that being a member here connects you to clubs in Singapore, Manila, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong, and beyond that to over 46,000 Rotary clubs worldwide.

A Bangkok Rotarian travelling to another city can nearly always find a club meeting, a warm welcome, and a ready-made network of colleagues.

Getting to 100

We ended the 2024 to 2025 year with 83 members. We want to reach 100 by our centennial year in 2030. Bangkok's international community keeps growing, and more Thai professionals are looking for what Rotary offers: meaningful community service, a serious professional network, and genuine friendship.

The induction process is straightforward. A prospective member is proposed by a current member, introduced to the Club, and after a getting-to-know-you period, formally inducted at a regular meeting. We do insist on an interview process to ensure candidates present a genuine commitment to Rotary service beyond self and the assurance that the candidate exemplifies Rotary values.

Come and See

Non-Rotarian guests are always welcome to attend our meetings by invitation. Thursday lunch is the heart of Club life: an hour and a half of updates from our service committees, a speaker or programme, and the kind of conversation that happens when interesting people from many different backgrounds share a room and a purpose.

If you're in Bangkok, resident or passing through, come along.
