December 2019 – Disease Prevention and Treatment Month
Dear respected fellow Rotarians,
The Rotary International monthly theme for December is Disease Prevention and Treatment.
Rotary International’s priority is the eradication of polio worldwide. Rotary Thailand, every year, organizes an event “Run to End Polio” for the past several years. This year the Polio run is held in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya in the morning of the 8 December 2019. Our members have supported the Rotary Foundation by contributing to its Annual Fund and Polio Fund. 14 donors from our club will be recognized in the afternoon of that day and invited to dinner concert at InterContinental Bangkok Hotel. Trustee Chair of TRF, PRIP Gary C.K. Huang will be at the function to welcome the donors.
HIV/AIDS is another concern of Thailand. Our club is continuously working with Mercy Center of Human Development Foundation. We are about to finish our 1st global grant project with Mercy Center (the earlier HIV project with Mercy Center was a Matching Grant project). This project is Teaching Non-Government Organizations the Best Practices in HIV/AIDS Home Care within Poor Communities. There will be a final seminar and closure ceremony in Bangkok on 11 December 2019.
In Addition to the above, we have implemented the project Palliative Care Capacity Training project. 2 seminars, at Khon Kaen University and University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, had been done. Next seminar will be during 18-20 December 2019 in Bangkok.
Cerebral Palsy Physiotherapist training in Phayao project application is under authorization process. Implementation will be in 2020.
As we can see, our members work tirelessly on projects. We shall have some rest and enjoy our holidays festival. December is the family month. 5 December is Thai National Father Day when people will take this chance to visit their fathers and family. Later in the month, we will celebrate our Christmas at a luncheon meeting on 19 December 2019. I invite our members to bring along their spouses to join the party and see the shows from the kids of Mercy Center.
