Youth Service Month

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Rotary International’s theme for the month of May is Youth Service.

We are all still complying with a homestay policy during the Corona Virus Pandemic.  Many activities, including our youth service activities, and the face-to-face meetings with our Rotaract and Interact clubs have been cancelled or postponed.

At our regular weekly meeting on 23 April 2020, held online via Zoom, we proudly inducted newest member, Mr. Djoann Fal, into our club.  Rtn. Fal is the second member in our club under the age of 30, following Rtn. Hermes Huang whom we inducted in August 2019.

In Thailand, the situation of COVID-19 has been getting better.  As a result, the government has eased some of its lock down measures, including some businesses classified as “green businesses” to re-open from May 3rd.

The majority of measures designed to protect the health and welfare of people in Thailand remain in place, such as the evening curfew, stay at home and work from home policy, travel controls, and quarantine of travelers.  The government will evaluate the situation every two weeks to determine further release measures.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan, our regular meeting venue, will continue its closure through the end of May.  We will have to organize our meetings online for at least the same period.

We held our first online Board Meeting on Wednesday 29 April 2020.  The meeting approved 3 projects:

1.         Participating in Rotary Club of Singapore’s global grant COVID-19 response project,
2.         Our project providing food packages to needy communities, and
3.         Our project providing essential packages to the elderly and low-income families.

Our members will hand over the packages shortly.  I am also glad to see many Rotary Clubs in Thailand are doing COVID relief projects in their communities.

Lastly, we will stay connected online through virtual meetings.  Please be healthy, cautious and mindful of yourselves and others.

Yours in Rotary,

Pornchai Wessatada
President 2019-2020
